This week’s curry adventure for Eej and I was the Hanaan Restaurant spotted by Eej from our last Rusholme outing.
Nice, almost art deco, furnishings awaited our arrival (along with
several generations of "vinegar" flies). We duly noted this restaurant
wasn’t the most popular in the curry mile that night, but unpertubed we
ignored the "curry tout" trying to get people on the street in, and
barged in with a friendly "Yes. table for two please."
Once seated, the usual pops and pickles arrived, as is usual for
Rusholme you have to ask for them to be taken away if you don’t want
them. However, food in front of Eej is as good as eaten, and the pops
proved nice, warm and crispy.
Some communication problems kept our plates on the table dispite an attempt by a waiter to take them.
Starters comprised of Onion Bhaji for Eej, and Aloo Kebab for myself.
Both nice, mine was particulary hot (as in the surface of the
sun)…they must have waited longer for the "ping" for that one.
Mains, Chicken Jalfrezi called to me this evening, with boiled rice and
a couple of chapatis. All very tasty, the rice was light and fluffy and
the jalfrezi really nice. Only the portions were a little
disappointing. Eej enjoyed some meatball dish, again nice and tasty if
a little lacking in quantity.
Waiters were a bit "grunty", they really wanted to be somewhere else
this evening, I’m guessing they drew the short straw for the shift and
were missing "the match" on the box.
After everything was cleared, the bill was presented and the vinegar
flies descended into my lager dregs, while we comtemplated why the bill
was £10 cheaper than it should’ve been. Eager for a pat on the back (or
discount next time), we pointed this out, whereupon the waiter took the
bill away for verification using their Tomy My First Calculator. Alas
all we managed was a "thank you for being honest" as we left.
Meals plus 1 lager and 3 diet cokes was £31…(after the mistake was corrected).
