*** Revisited ***

Bored with the centre of Manchester I forced Gary into the Pink Truck Of Love and drove him to the lights and smells of Rusholme. We headed straight for the King Cobra.

As you’ll see from the original review, Eej and I liked this restaurant. However, this visit was a little disappointing.

The waiters seemed less interested, and check out the garnish supplied with the Aloo Kebab in the photo above. Disappointing seems inadequate a word. What was served was tasty though!

Anyway, after the shock of the starter. Gary chose the Chicken Jalfrezi and I had the Chicken Madras. The latter was lovely as before, with an almost smokey-bbq’y taste. Gary enjoyed his too and after sampling my madras confirmed the menu description of his Jalfrezi being “madras hot”.

I had a keema nan, which in the world of pizza hut could almost be described as “thin ‘n’ crispy” – it was…ok.

With a couple of “large” bottles of cobra and a single pint of 4-x, the bill amounted to £34.90, reasonable as before.

Still a good restaurant in a sea of bad ones.

King Cobra is a Sri Lankan restaurant that also does Indian food.
It
is thus far Troy’s and my favourite restaurant and the only one we have
visited twice. It is our only recommendation on the Curry Mile.

> Troyski : The only recommendation thus far!

The decor is very good. The atmosphere is light and the waiters seem quite happy with their lot in life.

> Troyski : Lovely shirts.

Standard
drinks and popadoms with the usual suspects of pickles. What is nice is
an additional plate of cucumber and onion smothered in chilli seeds and
oil and served with a chilli paste that could quite literally melt
holes in pig iron. Very hot stuff.
The menu is split
into Sri Lankan and Indian halves. All the standard Indian favourites
are there plus a few unknowns. All the Sri Lankan Dishes are unknowns.
These tend to be slightly hotter than their Indian cousins.
The
last time we came Troy had a very succelent chicken leg for starters
and then the Chicken Chilli for main which made the back of his head
sweat. The waiter did warn him it was hot. These both came from the Sri
Lankan side of the menu.
This time I had the mixed starter which was huge and Troy had a chicken and chickpea puri which he assured me was delicious.

>Troyski : Oh yes, it was delicious.

Main
courses came from the Indian side and were Chicken Dhansak and Chicken
Madras. Troy’s a big girl and left over half of his but he was
impressed by the lack of oil used in its preparation. My Dhansak was
delightful. Quite sweet but with a nice after-kick to remind me why I
was there. The lentils could have been less pureed for my taste but
still very nice , and, once again, massive.
I had chapattis which were good, Troy had a garlic nan whih was a bit bitter for him.
Free
coffees were offered and rejected. After dinner sweeties of soft fruits
and Vimto lollies. We have decided that only the best restaurants serve
Vimto lollies.
About £36.00 for the meal including 4 pints of diet coke.
We’ll be going again.
