This is Big Al’s local, not just because of it’s excellent food, but largely
for it’s excellent brews. Witches Brew was the pint of the evening this
night, whilst Big Al, Monkey, Mrs Big Al, and myself sat down in the
restaurant section to sample the wares.

The Travellers Rest Menu contains English and Greek dishes, both are
cooked, IMHO, to a good standard. While Big Al went for the Greek, the
rest of us selected from the English menu. I shall only speak for
myself here, although note that there were no complaints from the other
about their food.

The soup of the day was tomato, and this was excellent….if it was out
of a can it is a can of which I am unaware. Served with hot crusty
bread, very tomatoey with a hint of spice. The main I selected was the
Chicken Italian, grilled chicken breast smothered with a tomato, onion,
mushroom salsa. I think the chicken was just a tad overdone, but the
salsa and accompanying potatoes and veg were handsome and wholesome.

Previous visits here I have had the Greek food, and again it is very
good in my opinion. Stiffado, Kleftico, Tzatziki…it’s all here and
cooked as expected. Dee-lish.

Worth a visit if your in the Warrington area, and you might even bump into Big Al.
