Troyski "works from home" on Fridays so leaves me to my own devices on Thursday night. this meant another table for one in a local eatery. The last time I went past this place there were 3 police riot vans outside after some sort of fracas had happened inside. Last night it was empty. I would normally get a table next to the toilet in these circumstances but not tonight. I got a nice table right in the middle of the restaurant.

Curry Raj must cater 50 to 60 people easily. The restaurant is very smartly decked out with leather chairs that most people would happily have in their own dining room. In fact, my cousin Lee has a set). The waiters were attentive and polite.

Cobra on draft but I had the diet coke. Pops and Pickles good with some sort of hybrid mango chutney/chilli jam  a highlight.

I ordered Onion Bhajis for starter and the Curry Raj Special with chapatti for main.

The bhaji was very acceptable. Like the armadillo, crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside. Quite spicy and served with underripe tomato slices which some people love (Donna, I mean you).

The main course was a curry containing 1 King Prawn, normal prawns, tikka chicken and lamb pieces. It came plated with a garlic fried rice. It looked rather meagre but turned out to be very large indeed. The rice was covering 60% of the curry and more kept appearing with every forkfull. The chapatti was light and fluffy but it was the curry that was a real highlight. Can’t wait to take Troy to try it out.

Cost £16.50 inc three pints diet coke. Lovely

Went again – Shami Kebab very tasty with light omelette. Tandoori Mixed Grill fantastic. Succulent, moist, excellently spiced meats with an adequate salad and same light fluffy chapattis. And it was huge. Nearly left some.
