"Fantastic, best curry house for miles". That’s what I said 6 months ago. Now, I won’t be going back again unless something drastic happens.

Took Donna to revisit Cinnamon and had high hopes after last time. Immediately on edge when we found out that they no longer had a booze license. This really pissed Donna off because they hadn’t informed us when we booked. Off she went to the offy to return with a nice bottle of wine. I can only say that poor management allows this to happen.
This lack of direction seems to have taken over. Cinnamon was warm and inviting with a buzz about the place. Now, it’s too bright, slightly dirty looking and bereft of any atmosphere whatsoever. The waiters were surly and uninterested and certainly not at the standard of last time.
Food wise, the starters were still very good, as were the pops and pickles. Donna thought her Chicken chat could have done with a little more kick but she was still impressed. I had a mix starter and thought it was excellent, especially the chicken tikka (very tender and moist).
For mains we ordered boiled rice, Veg naan, chicken dhansak and prawn pathia. The rice was as poor a portion I can ever remember seeing. More a portion for 0.3 than for one. The veg naan was only lacking in one thing, vegetables. The chicken dhansak was lovely. That leaves the prawn pathia. This was the singularly most disgusting tasting dish I have eaten in any Indian restaurant ever. It tasted of dirt. I remember the taste from former BMX wipeouts during my youth. Never a pleasant experience then. Even less so now, especially as I wasn’t on a bike. I complained and was met with such non-interest that I was gobsmacked. They also charged me for it.
Don’t go. It looks like they tried for a few months to build up trade but have now settled for less than mediocrity. Time this place shut down.

OLD REVIEW

This is a very pleasant experience. The restaurant is modern and efficient. The decor is elegant and the staff are very friendly. Went with friends who have been loads of times.

Pops and pickles lovely and fresh and Donna reckons the onion chutney was as nice as she’s ever had.

Starters were mainly puris with King or normal prawn. Both excellent with puffy puris and well spiced prawns. Pete had a Mixed starter which consisted of Onion Bhaji, Sheek Kebab and something else. Had a bit of Bhaji and it was very good.

All the mains were huge with loads of chicken. My pathia was good but not fantastic. The Sag Bhuna was delicious, as was the Dhansak and Bengali. The chilli naan was searingly hot and the veggies very spicy and large.

Cost £100 (inc. tip) for four which I think was excellent value for money. The atmosphere really is great. We’ll definately be going back.
