Came across this problem recently trying to boot a Sun Netra T1 105 from the Solaris 8 installation CD's (both Install and Software 1/2).

When issuing boot cdrom, the boot would fail with the error "Can't read disk label." followed by "Can't open disk label package".

As a workaround, I reset the NVRAM, booted into single user mode from the CD, and exited to start the installation routine: –

  • ok> setenv auto-boot? false
  • ok> set-defaults
  • ok> reset-all
  • ok> boot cdrom -s

When you get to the maintenance shell prompt, just type "exit" and and the installation routine will start.

After the O/S was installed, I fixed the problem by upgraded the firmware to the latest available on the sunsolve website.
