This’ll be a quick review, mainly because it was a while since I went and I’ve forgotten most of it. The pertanent facts remain though!
This is one of Deans favourites, a trendy wine-bar-cum-restaurant affair. Decorated in a comtemporary style, it has an inviting style.
Although it was a Tuesday, Blue was busy. We hadn’t booked a table so had to hang around for 30mins or so for a table to become free. Dean had bigged this place up alot, so I was expecting some exceptional fare.
When we got our table, we were told that the smoked chicken was unavailable, and so too all the fish dishes. Not a good start. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli on a potato rosti.
Now, these kind of restaurants fall into two categories in my experience; posh-nosh (tasty but small) and full-plates (quantity not quality). Rarely do you find a good combination of them both. Blue, is the former. Well, sort of. I found the rosti was "over-caramalised" shall we say. Burnt in places is another description. This spoilt what could have been a very nice dish.
For the main course I ordered…..mmmm…this is where the review cuts short for now, cause I simply do not remember. Maybe this is an indication of the food’s standard…maybe I’ll remember later. Duck I think (can’t have been much else available!)
Cost; medium – expensive. Posh beers available. Careful with this one.
