Award Winning is the claim on the flags outside this restaurant.
We can’t resist flags like that so in we went. Parking is quite
restricted and we ended up on a side street the other side of the
nearby bus station. There are limited spots outside.
Inside the restaurant is split into two areas and we were placed next to the
window on the far side away from the door. Good enough seats except
that the Christmas lights were up. The slow flashing was just below
torture level until the strobe effect took over. This could induce
epilepsy so be careful. Both Troy and I were increasingly agitated by
these lights. Do NOT go to this restaurant in the Christmas period
unless they can guarantee a table in the back. STAY AWAY FROM THE
LIGHTS.
Enough of the light show, the food was great. We
were served by a very courteous chap who looked like James Brown.
Kingfisher on draft helped the pops and pickles down (particular
mention to the red onions which were lovely).
For starters, Troy had a stuffed chicken breast which he enthused about. It
looked a little bit sad and lonely on the plate but was tasty enough. I
had Lamb Tikka Chatt. Again, delicious, not too large and very tender
lamb.
For mains I had a Chicken/Keema Massala style curry
that was advertised as cooked with Cholesterol-free oil. Excellent
until you consider the boiled egg thrown into the mix. You take away
with one hand, and give with the other. Bizarre. Lovely flavour, and it
got hotter the more you ate. Fantastic. Troy had a Chicken Jalfrazi and
he was very pleased with the thick sauce. He went as far as to say it
was as good a Jalfrazi as he has ever had. High praise indeed. We had a
side of Cauliflower bhaji which again came in a thick sauce. The
cauliflower was very well cooked and just right. The chapattis were
good as well.
James came back at this point and co-ersed us into banana and pineapple fritters with ice cream. Again excellent,
Troy was a little concerned that his banana fritter wasn’t sweet enough. And there was no ice cream.
All in all an excellent meal in a good restaurant. Get rid of the strobe lights and our table would have been smashing.
Anyway, try it out. Our meal cost £38.00 including a couple of pints.
