This was my second visit to this restaurant, sat in the middle of Bellinge in Northampton. I need not say anything about Bellinge, but on my first visit was pleasantly surprised with the food here.

This time, GG and I revisited with our respective partners for a Saturday evening meal. Expecting it to be a lot more lively than our last mid-week visit we were surprised that it was not. Only two other parties arrived whilst we were there, although regular take away pickups were seen.

Trying to vary my choices a bit, I chose an Aloo Puri, and nice it was too, followed by a chicken dish name I hadn’t seen before, the Ka????; chicken, onions and chickpeas mainly. This, although advertised as “medium hot”, was not. It was tasty, but very lacking in spice. This theme seemed to resonate with my dinner mates and we all agreed the spice factor was lower than we had expected.

When our waiter (possibly the manager) enquired as to if we enjoyed it, Tina explained that she didn’t, offering that her chicken tikka masala was missing it’s “twang”. Difficult to define, we guessed that she too felt it was missing some spice, and the waiter/manager seemed mortified. He went back to the kitchen an returned with the base paste they use for the tikka masala, and asked Tina to taste it and verify her thoughts – which she did. Not enough spice. Again the waiter/manager left for the kitchen, and returned with a fresh takeaway chicken tikka masala (with rice), that had been altered to provide more “twang”. Too full to try there and then, we paid our bill and took it home.

Whether it was better or not, I’ve yet to find out, but I will update this when I do.

In conclusion, we were disappointed this time, but pleased that they cared enough to try and rectify. We might be back to see if this holds true.

£60 for four of us, including beers, coke, pops ‘n’ pickles, starters, breads and mains. Good value.
