The Cottage Tandoori
Church Street
Rainford

It’s been a while since I was last working at the same place as Eej, and when it happens it’s inevitable that the eating of Indian consumables will happen. Hence this first in perhaps a new batch of reviews from the Skelmersdale area.

This was my second trip to the highly commended Cottage Tandoori, the first producing an oustanding prawn pathia in equivalence to the ledgendary Arena restaurant. The aforementioned Arena I am told is now christened with a new name, so I look forward to a trip over to check it still meets the previous high quality.

Tonight, we were joined by Rob Cant, and Biker Pete.

Starters were all good. Eej particularly likes the Onion Bhajis here. I went for the reshmi kebab and so foregoing rice later to maintain my athletic physique. ;-S

I found my chicken dupiaza lacking in spice and the meat chunks a little on the chewy side, although it was still pleasant enough. A mental note to ask to future dupiaza’s here to be “topped up” a bit to madras level, maybe with chicken tikka instead.

Eejs’ chicken dhaal I’m assured was excellent, and promised copious gas later for the other “young ones” at Chez Lindens. Robs dish (I forget what it was) I think was unexpectedly spicy, and proceeded with much huffing and phewing, and there were no complaints from Biker Pete.

Defo worth a visit, seems spacious, but then mid-week it’s quite quiet. I’m told it does busy-up Fridays and Saturdays.

Expect £20-ish per head including pops, pickles, breads and drinks.
