This is a problem for my Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop with both Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) and 7.10 "Gutsy Gibbon".

Essentially, after a resume from standby, the mouse is frozen. Only a reboot will get the mouse back. This also fixes a problem on my laptop with the CPU overheating after hibernation.

The workaround for this is:

As root.

  • Add the parameter "i8042.nomux" to the "# kopt" entry in /etc/grub/menu.lst (ignore the fact this entry start with a #).

e.g # kopt=root=UUID=xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxx ro i8042.nomux

  • Run "update-grub".
  • Reboot.
