Malaysian and South Indian Cuisine

When we go to London this is the restaurant we head for. It serves excellent food and is great value for money.
There
are 2 Shamsudeens on Church Street. We go to the one near High Street
(opposite Yum Yums). It is a small restaurant with very friendly and
helpful staff.

Each table has a different coloured tablecloth which somehow adds to the homeliness of the place.
You can BYO booze but at £9 a bottle the house wine is cheap and very tasty.
Popadoms
come with your own choice of pickles that are all individually priced
so the more you have, the more you pay. My favourite is the satay
sauce.
Very few restaurants serve Dosais which is a
great shame. They are huge pancakes stuffed with spicy mashed potato
mixed with prawns, chicken, veg (the choice is yours). They are enough
as a starter for two people. They normally come with a coconut chutney,
but not being a fan I normally opt for more satay sauce. If Donna were
stranded on a desert island her food of choice would be the King Prawn
Dosai. ‘Nuff said I think.

For main course we
have the Chicken Sambal (which is labelled as malaysian vindaloo) which
is hot but not as hot as a vindie. It is really spicy with tomato and
the chicken is really succulent. We also have a prawn and mushroom
curry called Cendawat Udang (forgive me if this is incorrect, my malay
isn’t what it used to be) which is lighter and works very nicely with
the sambal. Don’t misunderstand though, it is still quite hot and spicy
in its own right.
The other thing that I have not
seen in other resaturants is murtabaks. These are layered, folded
breads stuffed again with your choice. Absolutely marvellous.
£40 the lot. Fantastic.
We will of course be going again.
