Now we have a problem, because there are two very good Indian restaurants in Hinckley. Choices to be made and all that.

Another Gobi recommendation, so I didn’t know whether it would be great or crap. Luckily it is very very good.

Went with Stephen from work who has only had 1 curry before in his life (and that was the night before) and wanted something spicy to remind him of his homeland of Thamesmead (sorry, Nigeria).

With that in mind it was strange that he ordered a prawn cocktail for starter. I went for the normal onion bhaji as it was my first visit.

Pops were very good with fresh spicy pickles.

The onion bhaji’s were very good. Flat fellas just like the old armadillo (crunchy on the outside, etc). Stephen (likes to be called Stephen) thought his prawn cocktail had too much sauce. That’ll teach him to order english food in an indian. The accompanying salads were fresh and crunchy, so a general thumbs up so far.

For mains, we went for garlic chilli lamb and mixed vegetable pathia with boiled rice and plain naan. I will say now that the veggie pathia is the best veggie main dish I have ever had. Stephen was a little disappointed initially with the heat in his garlic chilli lamb but I told him to give it a chance and by the end of the dish, he was saying it was very spicy. Just what a good curry should do, I think.

So, you should go and try it out. The waiters are excellent and the decor brilliant.

Cost £31 for two including two vodka and oranges and a couple of pints.
