A visit by my parents prompted an excursion to the nearest curry house to where they were staying, and delightful it was too.

Situated beside the Grand Union canal, it’s a lovely tranquil place to visit, with a view of the lock and a small space outside to sit if you fancy. The menu looked fancy, some new dishes I hadn’t seen before, but my eye stopped on the Chicken Rezalla, which I haven’t had for a while, and marked “hot” was enough for me to choose it. But lets check the starters first.

Pops came with lime pickle, onion/cucumber mix, mango chutney, a tomato salsa, and a “boat” of yohgurt/mint sauce.

Tina and Mum both had the vegetable samosas (chicken wasn’t available that night), and both thought they were more spicy than other samosas they’ve had before. Dad had the onion bhajis and no complaints from him, whilst I had the chicken pakora. This was slightly different to others I’d had in the past, being presented as a “patty” rather than a “nugget”. It was nice enough, though not as spicy as the samosas in all accounts.

Wine flowed and conversation grew louder.

Mains included madras for Dad (chicken maybe?), chicken tikka massalla for Tina, the aforementioned chicken rezalla for me, and I completely forgot what Mum had. Various rices and naans, along with some saag aloo (which I was too overcommitted to get to).

Wine flowed and the conversion ebbed while the comestibles were consumed.

The rezalla was nice, and I enjoy the chunky onions and peppers, but being maked “hot” I was expecting mid-range madras, but got more like mid-range dupiaza. Tina remarked her tikka was very coconutty and missing some “twang”. Dad put his madras at about average heat for a madras. Mum ate hers without any complaints. Naans were nice, rice was standard. Wine flowed.

Had to order a drink a couple of times before it arrived, but was followed by profuse apologies and a free drink. :-). Aside from that the service was excellent, if a bit falsetto at times (bit of a private joke there).

Alas (or not) I didn’t have the opportunity to pay the bill as Dad kindly did the honours, so I don’t know the overall cost. I imagine higher than usual because of the wine, but my glance at the prices gave me the impression they weren’t too expensive.
