The following notes were written following an installation of SCO Openserver 5.0.6 to a compaq Proliant DL380.

The compaq contained a SMART/2 array controller with 3 drives attached, 2 x 18GB and 1 x 32GB. The 2 x 18GB were configured as RAID 1 mirrors using the Compaq smartstart CD. This server has 256MB of RAM.

Power on the Compaq server and insert the SCO OpenServer 5.0.6 CD
If the Compaq’s BIOS is set correctly it should boot from the CD and present a “boot: “prompt.
Press ENTER and the installation routine will begin.
At the Install page, press ENTER to accept the EULA, and use the following values:-

Media device to be used : IDE CD ROM
IDE Controller : primary
Master or slave : master

Press the DOWN ARROW to highlight “Accept above choices”, and press ENTER.
At the “Insert your installation CD” prompt, press ENTER.
When prompted for the keyboard type, select “UK English”.
At the liscensing your system page, use the following values:-

License number : EVAL60ENT
License code : cuzldwaw
License data : d60;mcwrdbw

Press the DOWN ARROW to highlight “Accept above choices”, and press ENTER.
At the “Suitability for automatic upgrade” page, choose “Fresh” and press ENTER.
Choose OK, and press ENTER.
The installation program will begin to extract files.
At the “Configuring the basic system” page, use the following values: –

system name : hostname
domain name : domain.co.uk
security profile : improved
time zone : GMT with BST
language : Standard C (English)

Press the DOWN ARROW to highlight “Accept above choices”, and press ENTER.
At the “Initial system profile” page, use the following values:-

Standard Enterprise system configuration : Yes
Lighweight character terminal configuration : No
Database services : No

Press the DOWN ARROW to highlight “Accept above choices”, and press ENTER.
At the “Preparing your disk and choosing software” page, use the following values:-

Hard disk setup : UNIX only: Bad blocking off.
Optional software : SCO OpenServer Enterprise System, 279MB

Press the DOWN ARROW to highlight “Accept above choices”, and press ENTER.
At the “Configuring optional software&” page, use the following values:-

Network card : autodetect
Network address : 192.168.0.15
Netmask : 255.255.255.0
Broadcast address : 192.168.0.255
Video and graphics : VESA SVGA
Mouse : No mouse configured
Email system : Sendmail

Press the DOWN ARROW to highlight “Accept above choices”, and press ENTER.
At the “Setting your root password” page, use the following values:-

root password : ******
type again : ******

Press the DOWN ARROW to highlight “Accept above choices”, and press ENTER.
Choose OK, then press ENTER.

The installation program will extract some more files.
The installation program will make the division and filesystems.
The installation program will prompt you to remove the install CD and reboot.

Base SCO should now be installed.
